Marie was a homemaker who moved to Dalhart in the 1990’s. Her hobbies include making people laugh, crocheting, and anything that has to do with crafts. The XIT Queen for the Coon Memorial Nursing Home was Marie Rodriquez. She cried with tears of joy as she was crowned the winner. Rodriquez has been a member of the nursing home since June of 2020. Harold enjoys taking naps anywhere he can. He also has a passion for animals and antiques. They were married for 51 years and had two sons and one daughter. Wilkinson worked for several lumber companies and eventually retired as a mechanic. Harold has been a resident of the nursing home since February of 2021. It was in Dalhart where he met his wife Dixie, and they were married in 1958. He was raised in both Chamberland and Dalhart. The winners of this competition were picked by popular secret vote. The XIT King for the Coon Memorial Nursing Home was Harold Wilkinson. Because of COVID-19 precautions, this award ceremony took place outside. This did not stop the tradition from being carried out this year. Even though restrictions are loosening, the Coon Memorial Nursing Home has not fully returned to normal visiting procedure. The pandemic paused a lot of traditions including the 2020 XIT. COVID-19 was very difficult for the staff and residents of each facility. The XIT directors, along with reigning XIT Queen Kaylee Mitchell and this year’s queen candidates, teamed up with the Coon Memorial Nursing Home as well as the Legacy Assisted Living Center to announce the king and queen of each facility.
